Furthering a legacy of focus on people and relationships.

Joining Success Mortgage Partners (SMP)

What truly attracted me to SMP was the people. I’m passionate about learning, and from my very first conversations with Theresa Sprague, Kevin Broughton, Owen Lee, and the rest of the team, I knew I’d have the opportunity to learn a great deal from industry experts—and have some fun while doing it!

I have 14 years of experience in Human Resources and Talent Acquisition, with 5 years dedicated to the mortgage industry.

Max’s Start in the Mortgage Industry

“My first role in the mortgage industry was with Homepoint, the company that serviced my own mortgage. I joined at a pivotal moment when the company had around 800 employees and just two recruiters. As the company grew, I took on the responsibility of overseeing all recruiting operations, managing a team of over 20 talent acquisition professionals, and supporting a headcount expansion to over 5,000 employees.”

Education

I graduated with a degree in Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy from James Madison College at Michigan State University, where I had some of the best years of my life. I’m a proud Spartan to this day—there’s nothing quite like a football Saturday in the fall in East Lansing on the banks of the Red Cedar.  During my time at school, I participated in many activities, but the one that truly shaped my experience was leading MSU’s oldest a cappella group, the Spartan Dischords. Performing has always been a passion of mine, and being part of the group not only brought me lifelong friends but also led me to my wife.

Family

My wife, Claire, and I have been married for 12 years. She’s been the Choir Director at Novi High School for the past 13 years.

I’ve got two little girls, 9 and 7, and a 15-month-old little guy who’s just figured out how to conquer stairs, so free time is pretty hard to come by!  If I am not thwarting my sons most recent plan to injure himself or his sisters, I love watching football, working out, playing golf, and binge-watching shows with my wife. The best part about my family is that we don’t need big plans to have fun— just being together is enough.

We love spending as much time as we can outdoors and on the water. We’re fortunate to be surrounded by plenty of wildlife at home and have deep connections to northern Michigan. Traverse City and Atlanta, MI, feel like our second homes!

Interests and Hobbies

I recently got into golf, and now I’m totally hooked! I love the challenge of constantly trying to improve—it reminds me a lot of recruiting. You have to keep your cool, not get too excited after a great shot, or too down after a bad one. There’s no quick fix for getting better either—you’ve got to put in the effort. Believe me, a shiny new set of clubs won’t magically fix your game… I’ve learned that the hard way!
